Convention planning :)

So overly committed but I shall delegate! All the delegation for people who know what to do and where 9tech, wrangling, etc etc)

But on to my own costuming.. I am totally lost as to what to wear. I desperately want to make Madam Vastra but I already have…

Oh my god if you’re going to judge someone’s cosplay you better learn your fucking shit because this is Duela Dent you goddamn assholes.

AHAHAHA

Perpetually laughing over the fact that “real gamer/comic book nerd” males keep insulting women for cosplaying things they’ve never even heard of

who’s the “fake geek” now, fuckers?

*headesk* If you are female and in a simple costume- you are pandering to the fanboys. if you wear a complex costume you are a try hard.

And I know I’ve experienced this myself. From historical stuff (where I tend to aim right for the whackadoodle styles (Cleves anyone? that weirdo period of Bustle-ewwwwomgnobustle-bustle!!!! And not yet done but Guarda Infanta- aka the Spanish did panniers first) to my armour and bodypaint stuff. It’s why I rarely share on forums any more preferring to just post in my little corner of the internet and if people see then they see.

But you know what? This costume rocks, whether she made it herself or not, and I know fellow artists think so as well.

But yeah, I haven’t delved so much in to comics to know Duela’s story arc but I know who she is. And er… that’s mostly from seeing cosplayers so guess what? Cosplaying lesser known characters (I think I had two people know I was Talon in NZ….) means you find out who the deep knowledge fans are. Or fellow artists are (because we tend to look at the work and go- shoot, so many elements and they all work and they are all well made and that’s a tricky material and wow!)

And I will not re-add Duela to my list of frack I wanna do that list. Shoot. Too late.

Steroids.. whee!

It’s like being drunk for me. I get very chatty and yet mellow. For a one day spike anyway. If I have high doses for a few days then the rage monster comes out.

Anyway, steoids upped because my knees are totally borked from walking down hill. Yep. You can tell it’s a farked up disease and not lacof activity/injury related when you can climb stairs for 10 stories but can’t walk more than three steps down hill without having to turn sideways like a crab. Also my jaw clicked out of place (from walking I kid you not) so about 3 hours ago I just did it and took 20mg of cortizone. And now i am flying a bit. And very chummy. I love you man!

Costume related because I was informed 9gah, Sylvie!) that Lapco had reject hides on sale and I wanted to pick up some vegetanned for my Talon bikini (might need to employ someone for the brute force needed to shape it) and rivets for same (as well as some potential other costume pieces. Also dye for the same as well as to refresh my Imperial officer boots now that I am pretty sure I will fit them again (made for a model I swear- tall but narrow and with a large base.)

Then to Nick’s fabrics (I didn’t see anything for me but there is a lot of nice linen). And Geoff’s emporiaum where I spotted some beige cotton sateen for $4/m which is awesome! So it is comparable to calico for price but much better for lining and interlining as it is smooth and will shrink less due to the weave.

So a good day for my first outing in weeks, but with a very definite toll.

I’m a huge fan of Stjepan and have been for years 🙂 His work on Witchbalde with Ron Marz was just a revelation 🙂

I was intrigued by a costume of Wasp a while back (Her armour was chrome finished just…. gah,so gorgeous) and now I am definitely going to have to back read and catch up because that is freaking adorable. Stabby. Not Sting. Also I want to make gauzy wings and not be a pretty fairy… Though pixie also has wings and I have a pink wig…

And can we just appreciate the look on Wonder Woman’s face in that first pic?

“If You Know Someone Who Doesn’t Believe Sexism Exists, Show Them This
Link here: [x]

This is great, but jeez, some people are just awful.

It’s pretty relentless but there is hope and I’m so glad that people who intervened in public were acknoledged. I have been assaulted in public three times.(Not going to talk about other private interactions.)

Trigger warning- I just feel anger so can write about it.

Once at a high school assembly. Simple grope, mainly butt- an attempt for more stymied by the fact I was walking past and he was sitting. There were people who saw exactly who did it. And not one spoke up. So to this day I still don’t know. But I remember the faces of those on the school benches very well.

Once during New Year’s eve in London. So winter, heavy wool coat on, couldn’t see anything of me from behind aside from long hair and a small waist- and I was literally groped so hard and right under I was lifted of the ground. I didn’t dare turn around because that felt so dangerous and so close to becoming a full on physical assault. Again no one who saw intervened.

Third time was at Wellington Armageddon a few years back and someone tried to but their hand slid off my shiny shiny butt. Again a crowd saw and when I turned around they were literally all lookin in different direcions. No one wanted to dob in their mate. Yes, protect the idiot who assaulted someone ‘cause they are your friend? Is that really a friend you want?

In all cases I wore very different clothes in all cases they were sneak attacks from behind.

Progress?

Today I wrote up a proposal for Armageddon cosplay events, kind of nervous even though I have been involved for such a long time. Really hoping we can do this, as it would help everyone. And I do mean everyone!
But I also managed to score some nice make up items:
three wide foundation brushes for all my paint! I love these. Not quite moppy like a round natural fbre and not really as hard edged as a flat. Perfect for loading paint to cover limbs.
One stipple brush for foundation because I really needed a back up. they are easy to clean but I do tend to forget between events. Funnily enough with all the stage work in my past and all the body painting currently i don’t tend to want to wear make up day to day 😉
Foundation in my colour! Pasty pinkish ginga white! I am cool toned so most make up is totally wrong on me. Also it appears to do what it says on the bottle. A bit perfumey for me but it does dissipate fairly quickly.
One liquid eyeliner. It’s a MAC!

Onehunga DressMart is actually pretty good 🙂 The “bling” shop no longer sells elf brushes though 🙁 So my foundation brushes are BYS and they are doing three for the price of two.

I set up and then ignored my scanner for Talon- but tidied the rest of the tatoos enough that I can use basic tools in photoshop to tidy and create white spaces between each piece. I also had antihistamines and then did not go a splashing with resin. But both those will happen this week at some stage. On course for slow turtle paced progress but I am also trying to get that balance of sleep and rest as well.
