It’s quite freeing-

Passing on of projects finally. My destash pile is getting smaller, or rather it’s all being passed through the washing machine on to postage boxes as various friends grab them up :)Currently reassembling my quickie Eowyn funeral gown as well. A bit of a…

This is on of my absolute favorite tutorials, and I can’t believe I haven’t posted this yet… I’ve used this method hundreds of times (okay, maybe 3-4), but it works flawlessly every time.

This method creates beautiful armor pieces on the cheap, but they still look amazing. This is one of those cosplay-life-changers!

Check out the full tutorial here

THIS IS THE TUTORIAL THAT TAUGHT ME HOW TO MAKE CRAFT FOAM ARMOR.

Relevant to future projects.

Now to figure out wonder flex…

Omigosh, this is my tutorial.  34,000 notes!?  That is… ridiculously humbling and happy-making.  Wow.

I should have known it was yours! 🙂

I knew it the second it scrolled up o my screen and my nostrils flared.. but it’s okay full credit given with link back for the win!

Are the little curls that Christine has in the stage show historically accurate? Or just another thing Maria did for Mary Philbin and Sarah?

operafantomet:

Oh, they’re very much a period detail! I mean, not every single lady of the Victorian era had them, even though they might have had curls or a curly hairdo. But they’re appearing frequently enough in 19th century depictions of women for me to label it perfectly period. Here’s three depictions, of Adelina Patti, Christina Nilsson and an unknown woman:

This is a really interesting question actually, and is a really good example of how quickly fashions and sensibilities can change really quickly!
These are all pre-1878 post 1867-ish. This is really the era most phantom costumes are based on- or fashion plates are tweaked to resemble this period even if they are later.

Actual c1880 hair fashion was for hair close to the head and in a low bun at the nape of the neck (maybe a loose roll and or flowers back there too). The style was definitely on the whole very restrained and to have hair loose was not the done thing even for young unmarried ladies.

Madame Giry is the big standout from this trend. Her skirt and bodice are so 1890s- hair is a weird mix of early 1870s basic shape but 1880s severity and 1860s sheen. Gored skirts like her are post 1890. So she is smack bam in the middle of the transitional era from bustle to umbrella skirts. Her shoulder cape in Masquerade is also bang from the 1890s- it’s the actual shaping, the shoulder caplet is appropriate for 1880 but is much more fitted then and the skirt should be more tubular.

But back to the little loose curls 😉 As you can see above you have examples of the soft curls that escaped from a loose upsweep (Kristina) and tiny super tight individually styled curls. But then there was the fake fringe/bangs. Lets hope that never gets incorporated in to the show.

That fashion came about as women did not want to cut their hair for a fad and so wore a fake hair piece at the front. And given frizzy curls were the specific fashion… they look like headbands of sheepskin.

I used to be able to identify fashion plates not only to a year but a season and occasion. And sometimes even a month or date.

Space hamster exploits!

At first I was like yeah little buddy got!

And then I started recruiting Grunt which lead to…

Dear internet – I don’t want a liquid only diet, I don’t want pre-made diet shakes, I want the best kind of full-bodied but blendable soups D: Gdi.

Any suggestions, folks?

Soups! I love making soups 🙂

My fave (aside from pumpkin- pumpkin, garlic and salt and nothing else except water 😉 ) is mushroom. You can chop them as fine or coarse as you like and you can also blend in a blender after. I just saute them in a little butter/oil with garlic, then salt and usually will add wine for some tang. Then I make a slurry of four/cornstarch and make up the body with that. Maybe some cream or sour cream. I tend to use big flats rather tan button mushrooms. But fresh wild mushrooms are amazing.

Onion soup or leek soup (saute with a stock cube) makes a great base for a range of soups/casserole type deals. Also blendable. Also with a thickener/creamer of your choice.

And I just recently steamed fresh asparagus and sauteed broad beans with a stock cube and added spinach and the asparagus added a dolop of cream and bulked up with water.. And then blended. It was very much like a delicate saag or palak.

Also potato and pea or potato and leek soup is easy to make. 🙂

Basically with a preferred stock base I pretty much will make use of any vegetable.

I don’t know what allergies/intolerances you have but I generally use ingredients that have substitutes (oil/butter, wheat/cornstarch/cream). Coconut cream works with some flavours too. I generally stick to regional produce with regional flavours. Pretty sure though coconut cream goes well with pumpkin 🙂

Kinda loving running around in Collector gear. Must not get ideas, must not get ideas. But it would be so cool to make this from latex. I just can’t make the molds, Full body latex/silicon costumes are swingingly huge. And thus pretty darn expensive. But yeah, loving how it’s sort of collector gear cut up and put over N7 armour.

Is it just me or is ME2 a little harder than ME3 in terms of actual mechanics? (PC) I can’t seem to sprint and turn at the same time, also there seems to be a little lag between clicks and action, both of which makes me a little prone to not being able to avoid gun fire or get out of the way of oncoming krogan. Currently recruiting Wrex Grunt btw. With Jane Shep so I’m more Renagon than Paragade right now.

I would love to see it! :D Thank you so much! I'm trying to dye a pair of coverall's I bought today for a Vault Suit cosplay for Fallout, but they're not really…blue enough. They're like a light grayish-blue (almost purple in photos) and they're a sort of royal blue? I read that something called RIT dye might work, but I've never done it before and I'm nervous. I'm really not sure if Royal Blue is even the color I need!

If it is already close to what you need then you probably will be fine with iDyepoly- as it will dye 65% of the fabric 🙂

My camera is loading sloooowly and I had to have a lie down but I’ve done my tasks for the day (photos of to be rid of “please please take them off my hands” costumes and parts) so I will be able to get photos of the net up in a few minutes 🙂

Difficult to address, but it has to be.

Except that one about me and M going out for lunch (MON DIEU). But on the whole (we did in fact have lunch, like the raving madwomen we are)

Thanks everyone for their support, please also bear in mind I have 10 years of a heck of a lot of negativity in my life as a direct result of the contest (either when I entered or since as a judge) so my tolerance levels are pretty high.

But unfortunately I have been used several times to hurt others and whether it was a deliberate act or collateral damage it has had major ramifications for others. That is when I get upset and frustrated as there is not a lot I can personally do to fix those problems.

Can I also reiterate how difficult it is to simply do day to day tasks with a serious disease and disability. It cannot be stressed hard enough that I simply don’t have the time or energy for cosplay world domination. And I can’t afford minions.
