No this is not on my to make costume list 😉 But every time I see it (I’ve known about it for a few years, ever since the Met started putting up multiple photos of many of their works) I sigh a little and feel okay about making the Mina gown.
This is not your usual gown of this period, it’s artistic dress but a particularly austere and really modern dress. It looks like sculpture and while built over a very rigidly 1880s shape and support the outer drapery completely obscures this. Aside from the fact that there is no way to get that silhouette without the support!
That mix of inner and outer is the same for the Mina gown, even if the sources are totally different.
And I am desperate to get from NZ to NY some time to go to the Met. They have the Spanish Infanta gown too. Sigh.
